I designed, 3D printed, and distributed a modular, charger-compatible phone stand.

The impetus for this project was my frustration about how most phone stands are not designed with long-term reliability in mind. I designed this stand to allow charging access while supporting a phone at multiple viewing angles, all while preserving the cable attached to the phone.

Many friends and family have received these stands, and they have had long lifespans thanks to their modular designs.

Cable Health
A scissor mechanism allows the stand to lift vertically as its angle becomes steeper, providing adequate room for a phone cable to bend freely. It also doubles as an elegant, dynamic aesthetic.

Design in Manufacturing
The stand is printed in three solid parts, allowing for portability without sacrificing structural integrity. 3D printing the stand in a specific horizontal configuration makes my thin front leg design possible.

The stand taken apart into its three printed parts, laid out flat on a gray surface: the notched base frame, the upright frame embossed “Aiden Hwang”, and the small front leg

Stand Health
Each stand component is modular; the whole thing can be assembled and disassembled within 10 seconds. If a part wears out, a new one can be printed to bring the object back to life. This stops the entire design from being wasted if one small part breaks.
