I was inspired by Santiago Calatrava’s Montjuïc Communications Tower: how it conveys motion even though it’s a massive, stationary structure.

Calatrava designed his tower to resemble an athlete holding the Olympic Flame; I designed my stand to resemble delicate strokes of writing. The stand’s angle references the tilt we give to our pens and pencils as we write. Its small curves and delicate resting points show how a few minimal strokes can make our eyes register beauty.

This stand carries its instrument patiently, waiting for its author, artist, engineer, or whoever it may be to resume their work.
